Pfizer Grant Received

July, 2007

The Physicians’ Institute was awarded a multi-state grant by Pfizer to manage physician education activities focusing on cardiac risk factors in six states. The Physicians’ Institute has become a leader nationally in developing and implementing a CME Block Grant program, working with other State Medical Societies to offer, provide and manage innovative, outcomes-based CME training and grant opportunities for selected CME providers in their states. Through this model, the Institute receives and manages the grant on behalf of the partner State Medical Societies.

The Physicians’ Institute recently received its second 18-month education grant of this type, this one from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals to manage a block grant program in six states in collaboration with five other state medical societies, including Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Oklahoma. The focus of the grant includes mandatory outcomes-based evaluations for educational programs that seek improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac risk factors. It is anticipated that about 40-50 projects in the six states may be funded through this grant.
