comMIt ™ Motivational Interviewing Training Seminar 2013

The Physicians’ Institute, a subsidiary of the Medical Association of Georgia, has become a national leader in developing and managing collaborative educational programs for health care organizations and providers, integrating training activities, outcomes and performance improvement.

comMIt ™ (Comprehensive Motivational Interviewing Training) is an effective training program to teach health care professionals how to use the principles of motivational interviewing (MI) with patients to improve adherence with health behaviors and hence, produce better outcomes. This program presents a new and more effective conceptual basis for motivational interviewing’s effectiveness. Brief motivational interviewing is a patient-centered approach developed for use with patients who vary in their readiness to take their medications or manage their illness and related health behaviors. comMIt ™ is offered over a two-day period. While both days are recommended for health care professionals, attending Day 1 only is an option for those who mainly wish to be exposed to the principles of Motivational Interviewing. Day 2 will feature extensive practice with expert coaching.

Faculty

Bruce Berger, PhD, is President of Berger Consulting, LLC and Professor Emeritus of Auburn University. He is the co-developer of comMIt ™, and has been teaching health communication and health behavior change and motivational interviewing for over 30 years. His co-faculty and co-developer is William Villaume, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Auburn University. Bruce and Bill are the authors of the upcoming book, Motivational Interviewing for Health Care Professionals: A Practical Approach, due out in August of this year.

Cost

Attendance for the two-day program is $800 per person, attending the Friday session only is $550 per person. A $50 early bird discount is available through June 30, 2013. The registration fee covers all training materials, professional credit certificates (as noted) and lunch each day.

Accreditation

Continuing education credits will be provided for physicians, case managers, pharmacists (ACPE), and nurses.

The Physicians’ Institute for Excellence in Medicine is accredited by the Medical Association of Georgia to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Physicians’ Institute for Excellence in Medicine designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 14 AMA PRA Category I Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
