Dr. Plummer is a Professor of Medicine in the Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Division of the Emory University School of Medicine, Medical Director of the Emory University Hospital Respiratory Care Department, the Associate Medical Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory at the Emory Clinic and the Emory University Hospital and is the Co-Associate Director for the Emory Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with Honors in 1962, and then moved to Chicago where he graduated from Northwestern Medical School in 1966 and finished his internship at Northwestern in 1967. Remaining in the Midwest he finished his residency in Internal Medicine in 1969 and his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in 1971. He joined the faculty of Emory University Medical School in 1971.Dr. Plummer continues to be heavily involved in teaching medical students, interns, residents and pulmonary/critical care fellows. Dr. Plummer has been active in local, state and national professional organizations.
